The essential qualifications for anyone pursuing a career in teaching are:-
- A degree, teaching is an all graduate profession
- Previous education must provide you with the foundation to teach the subject in which you intend to specialise.
- GCSE at level C in Maths, English & Science (or equivalent)
- These qualifications are required for anyone born after 1979 and planning to teach primary.
- Health & physical capacity to teach

It is also considered highly desirable to have recent work experience with young people. Some ITT providers will also have their own entry requirements.
Open Schools
To find out if teaching is the career for you, it is possible to spend a day visiting an open school, there are 500 registered open schools. You can apply to visit an Open school through the TDA website (www.tda.gov.uk). During your day in school you can observe lessons and talk to staff about a career in teaching. Aylsham High School is an Open School.
At Aylsham High School we participate in the Student Associate Scheme in conjunction with The University of East Anglia. This scheme is available for undergraduates and postgraduates to spend at least 10 days in school finding out knowledge and information about teaching, it will also allow time to observe and work with small groups of children. Students can receive funding to participate in this scheme.
