Hamlyn Fellows

Hamlyn Fellows come from a wide range of backgrounds and include teachers, learning mentors, librarians, parents, youth workers and young people! They work together with the UFA to develop their skills to create an innovative approach to working with young people.

Teacher Fellows follow a two year programme with regular input from UFA facilitators. During this time they develop their understanding of teaching and learning and work to generate innovative learning opportunities within their establishment.

Currently at Aylsham High School, there are three teachers working on their Fellowship (Helen Jacquet, Katrina Jarvis and Stephanie Lefort), and one who has completed it (Liz Jones), and we have developed a number of strategies both inside and outside the classroom to improve learning opportunities for our pupils.

One area of particular success has been the inclusion of some of our key principles into the Training School Development plan. This has allowed us a greater opportunity to develop our ideas and events. Events during the last year have included, amongst many other things:
  • a Year 7 Super Learning Day; new pupils had the chance to discover how they learn effectively in a fun day
  • a Year 11 Super Revision Day; a target group of Year 11 pupils had the chance to find out more about their intelligences and how they can revise effectively
  • Summer Challenge; pupils had an action packed out of hours week based around flying
